While anyone on “The Following” is potentially working for Joe Carroll’s serial-killing cabal, one of the good guys we’ll meet in Season 2 (premiering Sunday, Jan. 19 at 10:30 p.m. on FOX) is Max Hardy, Ryan’s niece. Well, she she starts out good — this is a Kevin Williamson show, so anyone could end up working for the enemy.
We’ll be introduced to Max, played by “90210” star Jessica Stroup, in the Season 2 premiere as she helps her uncle with his investigation. Want to know more about her? Check out Zap2it’s exclusive featurette, below.
“She’s a New York City cop … in the intel division,” explains Stroup. “She helps Ryan navigate how to get to these people who are creating so much havoc in New York.”
It’s no coincidence that Max has followed Ryan into the family business. “Max has always wanted a relationship with him,” says Williamson. “Max idolizes him; Max loves him. It’s really important that they stay together.”
Adds Kevin Bacon, “This character of Max gives me an opportunity to sort of open up and relate to somebody in my family on a deeper personal level.”
After its special post-football preview on Sunday, “The Following” moves to its regular Monday-night home starting Jan. 27. Take a look at the video:

Jessica was part of the “The Following” Panel at the TCA Winter Press Tour yesterday.
The cast (also including Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy) talked to the press about the upcoming season of “The Following”, which 2nd season will premiere this sunday on FOX!
Here are some bits and quotes from the panel:
- “Max is someone who is athletic and has a real strength to her when it comes to fighting crime — not that I fight crime on a daily basis,” Jessica Stroup joked.
– Stroup admitted that she auditioned with 15 to 20 other women and was sure she wouldn’t get it, worried she wasn’t the “cop-looking type.” Kevin Williamson disagreed, saying, “I thought she was the only one who looked like she could hold a gun.”
– Jessica Stroup loves that she gets to do stunts on “The Following”. Williamson says “she kicks ass“.

The first promo interviews for season 2 of The Following were released.

THE FOLLOWING will unveil a special preview Sunday, Jan. 19, immediately after the NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME (live, 6:00 PM-CC ET), kicking off 15 heart-pounding weeks of uninterrupted episodes. The season premiere of THE FOLLOWING will now air Monday, Jan. 27 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), following an encore of the Season Two preview (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT).
The Following will launch Season 2 with a two-night event, starting Sunday, Jan. 19 (following the NFC Championship Game) and then continuing in its regular Mondays-at-9 time slot. (Sleepy Hollow‘s season finale in turn airs an hour earlier on Jan. 20, at 8 pm.)
Created by Kevin Williamson (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Dawson’s Creek,” the Scream franchise) and starring Golden Globe Award-winning actor Kevin Bacon (X-Men: The Last Stand, Frost/Nixon) and James Purefoy (“Rome”), Season 2 will catch up with RYAN HARDY (Bacon) in the wake of a horrific new murder spree. The FBI calls on Ryan and MIKE WESTON (Shawn Ashmore) to speak with the lone survivor, LILY (Connie Nielsen; “Boss,” “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”), in order to help them solve the case. Ryan is reluctant to re-engage with the FBI but finds a valuable ally in his niece, MAX (Jessica Stroup, “90210”), an NYPD cop working in the Intel Division.
As the investigation proceeds, Ryan crosses paths with several complicated individuals, including LUKE (Sam Underwood, “Dexter”) and MANDY LANG (Tiffany Boone, Beautiful Creatures), which furthers his suspicion that JOE CARROLL’s (Purefoy) reign of terror is far from over.
